Not that long ago, I would have rubbed the face of every windows user I could in the fact that I was using a "beta" version of OS X and my system was more stable than their supposedly stable release that ended today. I can't exactly trace the problem, but I certainly didn't have these MIDI errors before. ![]() I dismissed minor issues as hiccups pertaining to my odd config, or maybe something was off about the SoundFont I selected to use with the synth, but now. The software synth still plays the MIDI, but these errors manifest as distortion, missing or wrong instruments, and other anomalies. Pretty early on in 10.11 it was all fine, no real objectionable issues, but since 10.11.3 and even into the latest beta, the error rate has seemingly been increasing. The software synth is sensitive to MIDI errors. ![]() pfffft.Īnyway, I've been using a software synth, along with DOSBox (the software synth is a part of the DOSBox build) and Windows 3.1 in order to play MIDI through OS X's default MIDI output. I use a custom configuration to listen to MIDI files, because for some stupid reason modern media player support for MIDI is lacking, horribly.īack in 10.4/10.5 I could use SoundFonts with QuickTime 7, and even then the stock Sound Bank was loud enough to hear, and fine for casual listening.
